Some Tongue and Articulation Exercises…

(For my class on the eight-week course at The School)

TONGUE FLIP EXERCISE

This exercise stretches the tongue and helps it find the best possible position for each individual vowel sound as it flips back into the mouth.

  1. THEE-THEE-THEE-THEE-THEE
  2. THEE-THAIR-THAIR-THAIR-THAIR
  3. THEE-THAIR-THAH-THAH-THAH
  4. THEE-THAIR-THAH-THOR-THOR
  5. THEE-THAIR-THAH-THOR-THOO

A SHORT ARTICULATION SEQUENCE

This sequence helps to strengthen and tone the muscles that shape our speech (the lips, tongue and soft palate.) Results can come within a few days if practiced two or three times daily. Your speech will sound and feel firmer and stronger.

  1. PEH-PEH-PEH/PEH-PEH-PEH/PEH-PEH-PEH/PAH (repeat each line three times)
  2. TEH-TEH-TEH/TEH-TEH-TEH/TEH-TEH-TEH/TAH
  3. KEH-KEH-KEH/KEH-KEH-KEH/KEH-KEH-KEH/KAH
  4. BEH-BEH-BEH/BEH-BEH-BEH/BEH-BEH-BEH/BAH
  5. DEH-DEH-DEH/DEH-DEH-DEH/DEH-DEH-DEH/DAH
  6. GEH-GEH-GEH/GEH-GEH-GEH/GEH-GEH-GEH/GAH
  7. MEH-MEH-MEH/MEH-MEH-MEH/MEH-MEH-MEH/MAH
  8. NEH-NEH-NEH/NEH-NEH-NEH/NEH-NEH-NEH/NAH
  9. MEH-MEH-MEH/NEH-NEH-NEH/MEH-MEH-MEH/NEH-NEH-NEH

MORE CONSONANT SOUNDS

The vowel sequence of our resonance exercise (MAH-MOR-MOO-MOR-MAH-MAH-MEE-MAY-MAH) can be used to practice any other consonant sounds which may need strengthening. Here are a few suggestions.

  1. SAHS-SORS-SOOS-SORS-SAHS-SAYS-SEES-SAYS-SAHS
  2. ZAHZ-ZORZ-ZOOZ-ZORZ-ZAHZ-ZAYZ-ZEEZ-ZAYZ-ZAHZ
  3. LARL-LORL-LOOL-LORL-LAHL-LAYL-LEEL-LAYL-LAHL
  4. SHARSH-SHORSH-SHOOSH-SHORSH-SHAHSH-SHAYSH-SHEESH-SHAYSH-SHAHSH
  5. ZHAHZH-ZHORZH-ZHOOZH-ZHORZH-ZHAHZH-ZHAYZH-ZHEEZH-ZHAYZH-ZHAHZH
  6. CHARCH-CHORCH-CHOOCH-CHORCH-CHARCH-CHAYCH-CHEECH-CHAYCH-CHARCH
  7. JARJ-JORJ-JOOJ-JORJ-JAHJ-JAYJ-JEEJ-JAYJ-JAHJ
